The Village of Liberty Police wrapped up 2019 with a sex offender compliance operation, that included multiple investigations into registered sex offenders living in Sullivan County.
Police noted that each person investigated was suspected of violating the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act or conditions of their probation.
According to police, the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act requires all registered sex offenders to notify authorities when they change their physical address or change Internet accounts used by the offender.
The investigations culminated on Tuesday, Dec. 17 and Wednesday, Dec.18 when officers visited multiple sex offenders within the Village of Liberty and physically verified both their home address and any Internet accounts or identifiers held by the offenders.
Along with the officers, members of the New York State Division of Corrections and Community Supervision conducted home visits and searches of offenders under supervision to determine if they had violated any of the conditions of their parole.
In total 28 registered sex offenders were investigated and verified resulting in 11 of them being arrested. Those charged:
- Jared Allen for violation of parole conditions;
- Ian Andino for unlawful possession of marijuana;
- Jeremy Davis for violation of parole conditions;
- Robert Dunn for violation of parole conditions;
- Richard Gilbert for tampering with physical evidence and unlawful possession of marijuana;
- Darrin Ort for unlawful possession of marijuana;
- Matthew Sanders for violation of parole conditions;
- Emmanuel Toribio for violation of parole conditions;
- Richard Vogel for violation of parole conditions, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating a motor vehicle without a license, failure to use a turn signal, improper plates, muffler exhaust violation and failure to stop at a stop sign;
- Randy Johnson for violation of parole conditions, and;
- Christopher Vandunk for violation of parole conditions and failure to verify an address within 90 days of moving as a registered Level 3 sex offender.
